Books Make Great Gifts
Some of my favorite books came as Holiday gifts from friends and family. What a great way to spend long winter nights, escaping into a book, steeping in an author’s language, letting your imagination create the details. Short stories are a nice way to read between holiday events too. As one reviewer said: Most of the stories in this collection can be read over lunch. For those who want something a bit longer, don’t forget my novel: WHEN THE COIN IS IN THE AIR is still available from Amazon or your local bookstore. Or you can still by a signed copy directly from me. |

What a Blast Four Readings in Four Weeks
It was a blast to have four readings in four great places in four weeks. I still hope to read in Indianapolis and Chicago, but many places have closed down in-person readings again. Here’s a quick rundown of the reading tour:
- Oct. 14 at Morgenstern’s Books in Bloomington, Indiana. This beautiful new bookstore and café is sure to become a Bloomington classic. The ownership group and sales staff are a warm and welcoming gang. Morgenstern’s put the reading on Facebook Live for another dozen listeners.
- Oct. 23 at Roebling Point Bookstore and Café in Covington, Kentucky. I love this bookstore in the historic neighborhood. I followed authors Jennifer Mooney and Byron McCauley who read from and discussed their book Hope Interrupted. It’s a snapshot of America in letters between two friends following George Floyd’s murder.
- Oct. 28 I was back at Joseph Beth Booksellers in Cincinnati, the region’s largest independent bookstore, and another favorite of mine. Proud and honored to read there again. Bonus gratitude points to a nice crowd who braved heavy rains to attend the reading.
- Nov. 3 at the Beverly Public Library in Beverly, MA. This was a heartwarming homecoming after we lived there for 20 years. Covid protocols dictated a plastic face shield (or was it to block flying fruit?), but the reading went well, and it was great fun to see so many old friends.

The Wyoming Holiday Sale:
This year, I participated in the Holiday Sale with other local artists here in Wyoming, Ohio at the Civic Center—Dec. 4th 10:00-3:00. I signed both books for people. It was a fun event, nice to see local friends and neighbors. |

How You Can Help:
If you’ve read Fire in the Field and Other Stories or WHEN THE COIN IS IN THE AIR, please tell other people about it. And please add a review to Amazon or Goodreads. Your review need not be complex or long, but reviews really help because the recommendation algorithm at Amazon makes more recommendations with more reviews. |

Last Word from a Reader: As always, I like to give a reader the last word. I appreciate every reader more than you can imagine and welcome your thoughts. Thank you all. This comes from Daniel Brown, critic and editor of AEQAI, who sadly died this autumn: “Young writes with an exceptional clarity and deep sympathy for his characters; it’d be easy to mistake his clarity for ease of craft. The emotional range of the stories is very large, including real tragedy, epiphanies large and small, humor.” |
